Check this out... Pretty upsetting, considering there have been so many facebook groups, that have been so vital to our growth. They deserve to be seen as well. Their communities are struggling now. And why? Because Facebook can't repair their business model?
Sad days indeed.

Check out our buddies and engage their pages. Don't let Facebook's sorting software kill our Communities.

Hearthstone, the new mtg?

A few months ago, I saw another advertisement for a new game by Blizzard called Hearthstone. Taglined as "deceptively simple"... I was curious. Being a long time Magic: The Gathering player.

So, I downloaded it, played through the tutorial matches... and was kinda digging it. But it didn't really reach it's tendrils into my brain, until I got to play other people. And let me tell you, It changes everything.

It is a nuts-and-bolts, meat and potatoes cardgame... But that's good enough.

The streamlined nature of the game, is great, because for the casual player, it seems simple enough... Strap together 30 cards, big monsters, some boom boom spells, and a hero power, and have some fun.  But for competitive players, like myself. It's gaining card advantage, building tempo, and causing 2-for-1s.

And best of all... You never "have to" spend a dime if you don't want to. Sure, it's great if you want to... You can buy packs just like in Magic, or Yu-gi-oh (GAG), or L5R, etc etc...
But, unlike those games... You can play entirely for free, and still gain new cards at a reasonable pace. Every time you win 3 matches against a live opponent, you receive 10 gold. And every time you have 100 gold, you can buy a booster pack. Each booster contains 5 random cards, with at least one rare. But your pack could contain 2 rares, or all 5 could be rare. Some packs have epic and legendary cards in them too... And you can even, if lucky, get multiples of those as well. (But you gotta be really lucky for that.)

They also have an Arena system. Which allows you to enter (for a modest fee of 150g) and build a deck out of a choice of random cards. Sort of like booster drafting for Magic people. (Or... more like Sealed Deck honestly.) Then, after you construct your deck, you play as many matches as you like... until you lose 3 times, or win 12. After you are finished, it rewards you with prizes based on your performance.

All in all, it's a very good time.
You should check it out.
What do ya have to lose? It's free.
