Howdy fellow nerds. Deece here...
There has been a small, yet noticeable change to 1d4Rounds' release schedule.
With the advent of our new VS System, we have had to reschedule the Weekly to better space out some of our content. The new schedule is as follows...
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday - NEW episode of our VS system.
Wednesday - NEW Weekly
Friday & Saturday - New weekly print giveaway
-------------------------------------------------------------------
So now for just a few details about the Weekly Print Giveaway.
In order to be in the running for the free print, you must do two things.
     1) Fill out our survey with your full name / mailing address / and all fields completed. (no trolls plz.)
     2) Secondly, tell us why you want it, and if you want to have any special message or little detail added from Zach or myself.

We can't wait to hear from you. And please, feel free to message us about any concerns, complaints about our VS winner, or just to say hey.

Thanks for being cool guys,
-1d4Rounds (Deece)

Hiya folks. Zach here.

Work has had me running at top speed most times, and due to time constraints and the necessity of sleep, I have missed some good opportunities to update, but that changes today.

From this point on 1d4rounds.com is my job, and my job is just a method of feeding me so that I can participate in this website. Expect more from me in the near future, including (but not limited to) a review of Star Trek: Into Darkness, the first in our VS series battle system, and many more blog posts like (but much better than) this one.

Thanks for visiting,
-Zach-

Our favorite pastime gets an overhaul...

Maybe you haven't heard about it yet, but Magic: The Gathering is about to undergo a rules overhaul. Nothing too huge... but then again, nothing so minute you won't notice.
Here is an article explaining the rules changes in some detail, and explaining why the R&D team at Wizards thought it was necessary. In most cases I'll admit, I understand the changes. The legendary rule, seems to be the one drawing the most hate, and I honestly feel like it's the one that makes the most sense. Call me crazy, but with the advent of multiple blocks of timeshifting, spiralling, etc etc... I think it's safe to assume that somebody has come face to face with themselves.
Magic has undergone weirder changes in the past, and with much greater upheaval... (stackable damage comes to mind.) and yet, it exists today. Living and breathing, as well as it ever has.

Hey, Deece here. I just wanted to let you know that the Weekly is almost finished. Had a little bit of a technical issue, but it will be up Today, as scheduled... Just not at the usual 5 am.
Not that it should be an issue, seeing as though our analytics software shows us that the large majority of our Weekly section's views take place after 8pm. You lazy jerks... Can't take 5 minutes off work to read a nerdy webcomic. I kid, I kid...

Anywho... We hope you will enjoy it when it is finalized.

Thanks for understanding.

There will soon be a new tab on 1d4Rounds.  A bracket system of VS battles. Based on three very important aspects of a character. Power, Style, and Synergy.

Power being the obvious strength or power set of the individual.
Style, the flair of the character.
Synergy being how well one fits into it's universe.

So without further ado... and keeping in mind that all of the pairings were randomly chosen... Here is the first set of brackets. One VS will be posted each week, and will continue until the finale. The VS championship.

The First 16 VS opponents. (in no particular order)

1) Commander Data VS Magneto
2) Doctor Who VS Starscream
3) Indiana Jones VS The Joker and Harley Quinn
4) R2D2 VS Ganon
5) Superman VS Gary Oak
6) Thor VS Skeletor
7) Gandalf VS Lacutus of Borg
8) Cloud VS Akuma

I know the battles seem unfair... but more than just power will be considered when determining the victor.

The 1st VS Battle will begin soon... So keep an eye out.

subject matter...

Okay, so I'm gonna level with ya... Some of the jokes we will be making on here, you might not get right away. It's not because you're a bad person, or that we are speaking a foreign language... But more than likely, because we are an advanced form of nerd. The Apex-Nerd, as we are known in the scientific community. But, just because you might not know who Garruk the Planeswalker is, or understand the intricacies of utilizing detect magic. Just because you don't know how to properly FADC in SF4, or if that last example is complete gibberish to you... It doesn't mean we don't care... or that there is no hope for you.

We understand that you may not get it... But, if you don't know what it is, maybe look it up. We live in an awesome time. The internet, wikipedia, and a slew of resources are at your fingertips. And there is so much content out there for us as nerds to enjoy.

In a perfect world, we could all sit around a thousand inch HDTV, and watch a Dr. Who/ SG-1 marathon, while playing WoW on our laptops, and arguing who was the best captain of the Enterprise. And that's all I have ever wanted.

"But until that day... Til all are one."   (yes that was an optimus prime quote.)

New poll: Favorite video game genre

5/6/2013

I love RPG's. There's just something about the creation and maintenance of a character; something very fluid and easy to embrace. For those of us so inclined, it is both the most glorious and least poisonous high.

It isn't, I think, that we want to be stronger, smarter people. There is some of that. There is on some level a degree of self exaggeration. But the most fun is had when the character you play is nothing like you. Perhaps he's more level headed, or perhaps he has a mean streak. Maybe he was born with a terrible disease, or maybe he is just plain evil. Sometimes it's as simple as, "I have a big sword. I kill things." In any case I feel empowered, even by weaknesses.

I am not the martyr type, far from it, but I have been a martyr before. I have been able to play the tragic hero, and the tortured soul. I have been good, evil, and everything in between. Always thinking through a filter, "what would my character do?"

I get to be someone new. I get to act as them, and think like them. I have felt more for characters from certain video games than I have felt for anyone in any fictional setting. Empathy is often expressed due to common experiences, yet only in this format is it expressed due to a common existence. You wear the mantle, and the mantle wears you in return.

-Zach

--- So anyway, I'm going to try to give my argument for the polls each week, and hope that there are those of you who will agree. Perhaps if we can get enough people voting we can start a flame war. Wouldn't that be exciting?

risqué Attire in 1d4

I want to be clear... Drawing your closs friend, cross-dressing as a risqué video game character really takes it out of you. The first sketch had me laughing too hard to continue into the inking phase. But I muddled through.

Then, the other day while talking about the next posting, Zack had proposed a 3rd installment. But, I'm sorry to say I had to shoot the idea down, due to the "difficulty" involved in the process. HA!

I'm happy to report that the next issue will contain no awkward pseudo-sexual attire.

PS---> Unless of course you all want a continuation... Sigh.

Update 2: Oculus gift?

5/4/2013

So, as an aspiring writer and experienced gamer, I'd like to take a moment and ask Oculus VR to please gift me their new hardware. I assure you I am both technically capable of utilizing this device, and emphatically excited to do so.

If you are not aware of the specific technology I speak of then you need only look here (http://www.oculusvr.com/) for more details.

More details coming on the rift in the near future. As dev kits and technical specs continue to leak I will be sure to keep you informed. If I can get my hands on one of these, you can be sure that I will have a lot more to say.
